IngressCommunication

In Ingress you can communicate with other agents who have the scanner app open or the Intel Map open. To send someone a message, tap on their name in the COMM window or long press on their name on the Intel screen in the scanner app. If you're communicating with an agent who is the same faction as you are, make sure to select "Faction" (next to "All" and "Alerts" near the "COMM" tab). Type your message and tap "Transmit".

Agents with an Android device will receive a notification if they don't have the scanner app open when you refer to them in a message (with an at sign). Agents with both iOS and Android will see a yellow person icon next to the COMM button on the main screen in the scanner app when you refer to them in chat.

Under "All", "Faction" and "Alerts", you'll see a distance marker. This distance adjustment will include information that is that distance away or closer, but occasionally you will pick up details from further away than you have it set to.

"Alerts" include notifications that a portal you have a resonator deployed on is under attack and messages sent by other players that specifically refer to you. "Faction" is all chat that other players of the same faction have sent in Faction chat. "All" is everything from "Faction" and "Alerts" as well as any links and fields made by both factions and any chat that other players have sent in All chat.

If you want to talk to someone and you don't include an at sign with their agent name, they will only see the message if they happen to be close enough and have their distance set to far enough away to catch your message. If you type an at sign and an agent name and the name doesn't show up in green or blue, then you mistyped it and the agent you're attempting to contact may not see your message. If you send a message to an agent of the opposing faction, the COMM window should switch to "All" chat. Keep that in mind if you want to send a message to someone of the same faction after that.

If you're sending chat from the Intel Map, the location of the message you are sending is where you are currently looking. If you aren't currently looking at the area where the agent you are talking to is present, make sure to include an at sign with their agent name in the message, or they won't see it.
